The new album “Scenes From The Dark Ages” (L&H Production/yelenaeckemoff.bandcamp.com) by the bustling Russian pianist and composer Yelena Eckemoff is a grab bag. With a host of Italian accompanists and Trilok Gurtu, she recalls prog:acts such as Mike Oldfield, King Crimson or Jethro Tut, jazz-rock institutions such as Return to Forever, John McLaughlin or the Pat Metheny Group, but also baroque and renaissance music to create a very colorful and varied rainbow.  Eckemoff herself plays piano, organ, celeste, harpsichord and synthesizer. With flutes, electric and acoustic violins, guitar, bass and Gurtus percussion, she makes this suite an absolute listening pleasure, in which she does not shy away from clichés, but bundles them in a very effective way. Guitarist Riccardo Bertuzzi stands out in particular from her line-up, whose ingenuity and enormous playing range should definitely not be lost sight of. “Scenes Of The Dark Ages” is a great, clever, cheerful and beautiful album.

Das neue Album „Scenes From The Dark Ages” (L&H Production/yelenaeckemoff.bandcamp.com) der umtriebigen russischen Pianistin und Komponistin Yelena Eckemoff ist eine Wundertüte. Mit einer Schar italienischer Begleiter und Trilok Gurtu besinnt sie sich auf Prog:Acts wie  Mike Oldfield, King Crimson oder Jethro Tut, Jazz-Rock-institutionen wie Return to Forever, John McLaughlin  oder die Pat Metheny Group, aber auch auf Barock- und  Renaissancemusik, um über all das einen sehr farbenfro-hen und abwechslungsreichen Regenbogen zu schlagen.  Eckemoff selbst spielt Klavier, Orgel, Celeste, Cembalo  und Synthesizer. Mit Flöten, elektrischen und akustischen Geigen, Gitarre, Bass und Gurtus Percussion macht sie diese Suite zu einem absoluten Hörvergnügen, bei dem sie sich vor Klischees nicht scheut, diese aber auf sehr effektive Weise bündelt. Aus ihrer Besetzung sticht vor allem Gitarrist Riccardo Bertuzzi heraus, dessen Einfallsreichtum und enorme spielerische Bandbreite man definitiv nicht aus dem Auge verlieren sollte. „Scenes Of The Dark Ages” ist ein großes, kluges, fröhliches und schönes Album.
