On her new double concept CD “Scenes From The Dark Ages,” Russian-American jazz pianist Yelena -Eckemoff transports us to a world of sound that combines medieval inspiration with modern forms of expression. But instead of simply reinterpreting historical musical traditions, she creates a unique synthesis of classical structure, jazz, fusion, and world music. She is supported by a top-class ensemble, including Trilok Gurtu (drums, percussion), Riccardo Bertuzzi (electric guitar), and Carlo Nicita (flute). Her playing on the piano, organ, and historical keyboard instruments such as the clavichord and harpsichord lends the music additional depth. Pieces such as “Pilgrims” impressively illustrate how melodies change over the course of the album, constantly revealing new facets. Auf ihrer neuen Konzept-Doppel-CD „Scenes From The Dark Ages“ entführt uns die russisch-amerikanische Jazzpianistin Yelena Eckemoff in eine Klangwelt, die mittelalterliche Inspiration mit modernen Ausdrucksformen verbindet. Doch anstatt historische Musiktraditionen einfach neu zu interpretieren, erschafft sie eine eigenständige Synthese aus klassischer Struktur, Jazz, Fusion und Weltmusik.
