Yelena Eckemoff (read exclusive interview), pianist and composer, has created a unique place on the contemporary jazz scene thanks to her evocative and richly structured, creative work. Born in Moscow, Russia, Eckemoff began her musical journey in classical music by studying at the prestigious Moscow State Conservatory. Her classical education is evident in the precision and technical prowess that permeates her musical expression. One of her strong strengths is the imaginative blending of classical sensibilities with jazz improvisation. Eckemoff often draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources, including nature, poetry and her personal experiences. Her compositions are known for their fresh harmonies, complex melodies and a certain introspective quality that invites listeners into a contemplative space. Many works reflect her ability to create soundscapes that are complex and emotional at the same time. It is no different on the latest album Romance of the Moon, on which she reached for the poetry of the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. She set 13 of his poems to music, while the listener can also fully enjoy them in the attached English translation to penetrate even more into the depth of the works set to music. It is just another reflection of the details Eckemoff goes into in his projects, where in addition to the precision of each note, he also pays attention to the cover and accompanying texts. This is exactly what she has her own publishing house for, so that she can fully provide the listener with her vision, without any filtering or changes. From the first moment, Romance of the Moon bursts with colors and a rich impressionistic, sound-painting harmony that balances between classical and jazz music. The soft tone of the Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu perfectly complements the intimate, melancholic, contemplative scenery. Romance of the Moon is an album that the listener must listen to more than once in order to discover the beauty, the different melodic layers of colors and the complexity of the expressive elements that hide in the wonderful interplay of poetry and music. It is an intimate, chamber work that is based mainly on melodic nuances and color of sound. Thus, Romance of the Moon does not bring any sharp contrasts and dynamic music, but pleasant melodies for contemplation and enjoyment of the connection of different forms of art in the excellent interplay of protagonists. At the same time, Eckemoff’s growth as a composer is shown here, constantly pushing her motivic work and inspirations to a new level.

Yelena Eckemoff (čítaj exkluzívny rozhovor), klaviristka a skladateľka si vďaka svojej sugestívnej a bohato štruktúrovanej, kreatívnej tvorbe vytvorila jedinečné miesto na súčasnej jazzovej scéne. Eckemoff sa narodila v Moskve v Rusku a svoju hudobnú cestu začala v klasickej hudbe štúdiom na prestížnom Moskovskom štátnom konzervatóriu. Jej klasické vzdelanie je evidentné v precíznosti a technickej zdatnosti, ktorá preniká do jej hudobného výrazu. Práve jednou z jej silných predností je nápadité prelínanie klasického cítenia s jazzovou improvizáciou. Eckemoff často čerpá inšpiráciu zo širokej škály zdrojov vrátane prírody, poézie a jej osobných skúseností. Jej skladby sú známe svojimi sviežimi harmóniami, zložitými melódiami a istou introspektívnou kvalitou, ktorá pozýva poslucháčov do kontemplatívneho priestoru. Zhudobnila 13 jeho poém, pričom poslucháč si ich môže plne vychutnať aj v priloženom anglickom preklade, aby ešte viac prenikol do hĺbky zhudobnených diel. Je to len ďalšou reflexiou toho, do akých detailov zachádza Eckemoff vo svojich projektoch, kde si okrem precíznosti každého tónu, dáva záležať aj na obálke a sprievodných textoch. Práve na to má aj svoje vydavateľstvo, aby mohla poslucháčovi plne poskytnúť svoju víziu, bez akéhokoľvek filtrovania a zmien. Romance of the Moon od prvého momentu hýri farbami a bohatou impresionistickou, zvukomalebnou harmóniou, ktorá balansuje na rozmedzí klasickej a jazzovej hudby. Mäkký tón talianskeho trubkára Paola Fresua vynikajúco doplňuje intímne, melancholické, kontemplatívne scenérie. Romance of the Moon je album, ktorý si poslucháč musí vypočuť, aj viackrát, aby objavoval krásy, rôznych melodických vrstiev farieb a komplexnosti výrazových prvkov, ktoré ukrývajú nádhernú súhru poézie a hudby. Je to intímne, komorné dielo, ktoré stavia prevažne na melodických nuansách a farbe zvuku. Romance of the Moon teda neprináša žiadne prudké kontrasty a dynamickú hudbu, ale príjemne melódie na rozjímanie a vychutnávanie si prepojenia rôznych podôb umenia v excelentnej súhre protagonistov. Zároveň sa tu ukazuje rast Eckemoff ako skladateľky, ktorá neustále posúva svoju motivickú tvorbu a inšpirácie na novú úroveň.
