Well, let’s return to our contemporary jazz, and we’ll do so with the great Yelena Eckemoff, a pianist, arranger, and composer whom we adore, with an extensive and superb career that began when she moved to the United States with her husband in the early 90s, and, since she also began her career, at the beginning or middle of the century, right? Within jazz, that is. Well, as I said, she’s a pianist we follow very closely. Her work always surprises and is wonderful, isn’t it? Today we’re going to listen to Yelena Eckemoff’s album, “I’m a Stranger in This World” released in 2022. Here on “I’m a Stranger in This World” Yelena is fronting a fantastic band, as always, surrounded by incredibly talented musicians. The band includes Ralph Alessi on trumpet, Adam Rogers on guitar, Ben Monder also on guitar, both are amazing guitarists, Christian Howes on violin, Drew Gress on acoustic and electric bass, Nasheet Waits on drums, and Joey Baron on drums on other tracks as well. A wonderful band accompanies Yelena Eckemoff on “I’m a Stranger in This World”. So come on, let’s enjoy a track from this superb album by Yelena Eckemoff. As I said, we’ve been following her since she released her first album in 2009, “Cold Sun,” accompanied by Peter Erskine on drums and the Danish bassist Mads Vinding. And the thing is, as I said, well, over the years she’s released some truly wonderful albums. She’s a musician who has lived in New York City since the early 90s, with her husband, where she emigrated. And, well, where she relaunched—relaunched, without a doubt, after a period of time in which she apparently had to take care of her children, her family, and so on, and had to put her career on hold for a while. Well, as I said, a career that undoubtedly took off to great heights, or to fantastic heights, at the beginning of the century, right? The beginning, mid-century, and, with the release in 2009, as I said, not mid-century, but the beginning, mid of the first decade of the century. We’re not quite at the middle of the century yet. As I said, with the release in 2009 of that wonderful “Cold Sun” which was her first album. And well, that’s it, and then many more fantastic ones have followed.
