In the last seven years the talented pianist Yelena Eckemoff has managed to publish eleven albums and to win the esteem of the musicians with whom she collaborated. And from Arild Andersen to Peter Erskine, Billy Hart, Mark Turner, George Mraz, Joe Locke and Mark Feldman, they are prominent names in the jazz scene. Yelena Eckemoff, however, is not only a virtuoso of her instrument, but also a talented composer and arranger, as well as producer of her own records. In the 14 tracks of the double CD “In the Shadow of a Cloud” shows great harmony with the multi-instrumentalist Chris Potter, guitarist Adam Rogers, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Gerald Cleaver. In addition to establishing a dialogue between American and European musicians, canceling the presumed differences between their respective jazz styles, this album combines poetry, refined technique and interpretive intensity. A rare example of the balance between intellectual complexity and emotional immediacy.
