Pianist and composer Yelena Eckemoff has been a frequent musical guest in IBE. This is because she is a very prolific artist, and once again I have a new album of hers in my hands: Rosendahls Garden. She is accompanied by Svante Henryson on cello and bass, as well as Morgan Ågren on drums. The eleven compositions form a kind of suite, inspired by her stays in Sweden and named after Rosendals Trädgård in Stockholm. Titles like “ABBA Museum,” the just-heard “Öresund Bridge,” or “Gripsholm Castle” refer directly to places and impressions that serve as the starting point for these musical miniatures. Yelena shines here one more time as a composer, instrumentalist and bandleader. I just mentioned Gripsholm Castle—let’s take a look, or rather, let’s give it a listen to this Gripsholm Castle.
