Mike Flynn for JazzWise, April 2026 issue
Prolific Russian-born pianist Eckemoff has two dozen albums to her name, yet retains poise and melodic restraint in her classically informed technique, making her distinct take on jazz fusion highly listenable. Here she pays tribute to the beauty of the Swedish gardens in central Stockholm, as well as saluting the country’s pop megastars on ‘ABBA Museum. It’s thanks to the skills of bassist/cellist Svante Henryson that the latter’s arco melody lends the tune a cinematic feel, while his Jaco-esque fretless work elsewhere gels well with drummer Morgan Agren’s tasteful grooves. Fans of melodic jazz fusion will find much to enjoy here. (MF)
