I just played the entire “Colors Live at Kito Bremen” on Amazon Music – twice. I looked up KITO and saw the venue, and knew right away why the recording sounded so “real”. It’s a wonderful record, and on my system, with the lights off I really could picture Yelena playing the full show as if she and her piano were right in front of me, about 15′ away. I wanted to review it on Amazon, but see that it’s a streaming-only record. In any event, I’m about to douse the lights and play it again. I think I’ll just put it on replay. I love it!!!
The trio of Green, Violet and Indigo are the finest 14+ minutes of music I can recall ever hearing 🙂 Thank you so much for this record!

I love Yelena’s new album “Adventures of the Wildflower” – a beautiful work with poetic stories, illustrations, design, and so much love and thought with every note she plays. Her piano playing technique is outstanding with the pianist left hand roaming the keys with exceptional skill, distinctive changes, and the right hand skipping out into the unknown with joyous affect. Her orchestration is unique, very clever, never a cliche. I love all her arrangements which blend together the vibes and piano and subtle effects used by Theremin, Glass harp and Guitar. All the band members are highly skilled virtuosic jazz musicians weaving together with love in the making of this album, the sound quality is superb. Yelena creates wonderful music, stories and paintings taking us on a journey through the seasons of everyday life, nature, family, all creatures great and small, with all her close observations to inspire, a true prolific jazz musician and composer….I feel enlightened.

Finally, the last album of our virtuoso Yelene came into my hands in the form of a download! However as I have a better Meridian CD player I converted to 16 / 44.1 wave format and burned to Japanese Made CDR. The result was great. I listened to the CD with delight. I have to say that in addition to being a music lover, I am also more of an audiophile! If the CD doesn’t sound good it will collect dust in my large collection! This is a damn well-recorded CD! Amazing production and terribly good sound! The music is a bit different from previous CDs but the compositions are great, very sophisticated jazz. Amazing scene: every instrument in a wide scene has its place! The band plays great, although the names are not as well known as on other albums by this author. They played well on 1 more album! This album is a real test for your Hi Fi devices! The team plays homogeneously and no one is so much in the foreground, but everyone is up to the task! It is a real miracle where so much strength and power of inspiration for Elena in the previous year came from that everyone would like to forget! Perfectly and honestly done job! So much good jazz. Those are two full CDs! I am pleasantly positively surprised! Compliments to our dear Yelena who is a versatile and complex person! Not to forget her great CD covers that are art too! 5 stars ***** ❤️👏🙏
[Yelena,] you deserve much more than one correct criticism of the last CD! All your L & H sound fantastic on my Dyaudio Contour / Musical Fidelity amp. Every album is a story for itself has its own personalities and no repetition! It’s fascinating that such a ′′ Small ′′ production company and (sorry) not so sound name – Producer always do such a good product! Your every jazz CD is top notch and earns the attention of the listener! I have a lot of CDa famous disco houses in the collection: XRCD, Chesky, ACT, ECM, Telarc, Enja, Blue Note, stockfish… But only L & H is permanent excellent! Your role is multiple and versatile: composition, performance; design, production – there are very few versatile personalities!

Коначно је посљедњи албум наше виртуоза Yelene дошао у моје руке у форми dawnloada! Међутим како имам бољи CD player Meridian конвертовао сам у 16/44.1 wave format и нарезао на japan Made CDR . Резултат је био одличан. С усхићењем сам преслушао ЦД. Морам рећи да сам поред тога што сам music lover истовремено сам и више audiophile! Ако ЦД добро не звучи сакупљаће прашину у мојој великој колекцији! Ово је проклето добро сниман ЦД! Невјероватна продукција и страховито добар звук! Музика је нешто другачија од претходних ЦДа али композиције су сјајне, врло софистициран jazz. Невјероватна сцена: сваки инструмент у широкој сцени има своје мјесто! Бенд свира сјајно, мада нијесу толико позната имена као на другим албумимс овог аутора. Свирали су добро на још 1 албуму! Овај албум је прави тест за ваше Hi Fi уређаје! Екипа свира хомогено и нико није толико у први план али сви су на висини задатка! Право је чудо од куд толика снага и моћ инспирације Yelene у претходној години коју би сви радо заборавили! Савршено и потено одрађен посао! Толико пуно доброг jazza. То су два full CDa! Пријетно сам позитивно изненађен! Комплименти нашој драгој Јелени која је свестрана и комплексна личност! Сваки албум је прича за себе има своје особености и нема понављања! Фасцинирајуће је да тако “Мала” продуценска кућа и (извините) не толико звучно име – Продуцент одраде увијек тако добар производ! Сваки ваш jazz ЦД је врхунски и завређује пажњу слушаоца! У колекцији имам много ЦДа познатих диско кућа: XRCD, Chesky,ACT, ECM, Telarc, Enja, Blue Note, stockfish… Али само L&H је перманетно одличан! First full listen, loaded with playful and engaging energy, nice surprises, can’t wait for what comes next, and two cd’s overflowing with unique compositions and inspired and intuitive performances by Yelena and a fine cast of Finnish artists, a unique mix of piano, guitar, saxophones, vibraphone, double bass, and drums. Unusual music. Complex but interesting. Sometimes it’s just magical. This is what I expected from you Elena. This music mirrors your mental state, your inner world. And I see that it is unstable, which feels in music. Thank you for such a thorough and philosophical work.

Today I listened to Blloming tall phlox with attention in anticipation of the new abum! It’s a CD that I’m happy to listen to even though it’s played by a backing band that aren’t as famous names as on other albums! The album sounds fantastic as well as without a short notice all the other Jelena’s SDi! Congratulations to my team at the studio on a fantastic job. Apart from being ′′ music lover ′′ at the same time I am an ′′ audiophile man ′′ I have demanding Hi-Fi systeme: Dynaudio (sp)-Musical Fidelity (amp) – Meridian (CD) with Transparent-Kimber-Way cables. They capture every detail! Looking forward to a well recorded new album that will give us a lot of pleasure during the hard time lockdowna! Let’s all enjoy together in Jelena’s new project that will make us happy and fill our collection with a perfect album.

2020 in Rearview, #6
I’m sharing some great musicians that I discovered during 2020. In no particular order, and I don’t know when the list will end.

Yelena Eckemoff
She’s my fb friend! It’s a shame that I belatedly discovered the vast world of her musical storybook. She paints all of her album artwork, and the music inside is also aptly visual – a jazz impressionist! Her unique compositions always intrigue curiosity, and the flawless performances are always accompanied with so many brilliant musicians. Her latest release, “Nocturnal Animals” perfectly showcases the artful soundscape of an accomplished American jazz pianist, classically trained in the Russian school. The album is also significant as it is the last recording of the great Jon Christensen (RIP), augmented by a second drummer Thomas Strønen. Arild Andersen’s virtuosic bass tones add the authority throughout.
“Firefly” – from the album “Nocturnal Animals” (2020) This is the music that reminds me of Jesse Hong’s painting. The more I listen, the better it gets.

The very last record Jon Christensen recorded was the beautiful and audible Nocturnal Animals with the Russian/American composer and pianist Yelena Eckemoff, who by the way also painted the cover. The record came out on the 24th. January this year and was recorded on the 16. and 17. April 2018 with Jan Erik Kongshaug behind the levers. The record also features Arild Andersen and Thomas Strønen on drums and percussion. The music is unique and both beautiful, complex, and goes across both classical and jazz. Highly recommended!

Den aller siste platen Jon Christensen spilte inn var den vakre og hørverdige Nocturnal Animals med den russisk/amerikanske komponisten og pianisten Yelena Eckemoff, som forøvrig også har malt coveret. Platen kom ut 24. januar i år og ble spilt inn 16. og 17. april 2018 med Jan Erik Kongshaug bak spakene. På platen medvirker også Arild Andersen og Thomas Strønen på trommer og slagverk. Musikken er unik og både vakker, kompleks, og går på tvers av både klassisk og jazz. Anbefales på det varmeste!
